That is the way I find bands. Either my buddies tell me to check someone out or I catch them as an opening act. I remember one of the times I went to see The Get Up Kids at the Metro on the north side of Chicago. A guy I had never heard of opened up for them. His name was Rocky Votolato. It was just him and his guitar in front of a few hundred people. He blew everyone away, including me. That night I went to the merch booth and bought two of his CDs. The next afternoon I went to check out his music website. I was not even going to go to see the opening bands, but I am sure glad I did. Rocky Votolato’s music has really had a great effect on my life. It helps that the guy is super talented too. I am sure that night old Rocky made quite a few fans. So just keep that in mind while you are opening up for a bigger band. You never know what fans you might pick up along the way.
