Restaurant Web Design: Using The Right Tools

Standard

So you have looked at and studied every aspect of other restaurant websites of different sizes and types. You wrote down all the things you liked about those restaurant websites and all the things you really did not like. Now the next step is probably the most difficult part of restaurant web design.

There are so many different types of restaurants, not just based on the food they offer but the size, location, how long they have been in business. Also if there is only a single restaurant to a few, or if there is a large chain of them. These differences are what you need to compare and contrast when thinking about restaurant web design. If you are planning on starting a restaurant or a restaurant chain, what types of things do you think your customers will be looking to get out of visiting your restaurant’s website? If you have been in the restaurant business for years and you feel it is time for a web presence you may know your customers a little better and this step might be a tad bit easier for you.

There are a few major things you might want to consider while kicking up the plans for your restaurant website. You need to think about the functionality of all those other restaurant websites out looked at. Sure you may really like what they have done but does it really apply to your particular restaurant. Some of the things that work for the bigger restaurants might not work for the little guys. The things that work for the little guys might not work for the big restaurants. Things like a store locator, which really would not make sense for a restaurant that only has one or two locations. But they might benefit more from a page that gives directions to the on or two locations. Also a small restaurant would most likely not benefit from a section for investors; this would really be geared more towards the really large restaurant chains. Some smaller restaurants might have investors but no where near what the corporate level chains like Applebee’s, Chili’s, or Fridays.

All in all you do not want to waste your cash on a function that will not really help out your restaurant business. Really think about what basic things your restaurant is going to need. Things like a home page, a page for the menu, a contact page, and maybe a page that gives directions. These types of functions will really be the most beneficial for you at the beginning. Once you restaurant starts to grow and more are added to you chain you may want to consider expanding your restaurant’s web presence as well.
